Senior Product Design Engineer – Glenelg Design Ltd

Glenelg Design Ltd are a well established Product Design Consultancy in Menston, Leeds, with over 20 years of experience bringing innovative design solutions to manufacture in diverse markets. These include FMCG; Primary Packaging (Media; Pharmaceuticals; Beverage; Personal Care); POS Systems; Medical Equipment and Security Products.

We see design from Concept to Manufacture, and assist clients throughout the process, with a proven track record of DFM in a wide range of processes.

We take an innovative approach to problem solving, with our names on over 20 commercial patents, and are often used to give our clients a commercial and manufacturing advantage.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer into our small team.

This is what we need you to do…

  • Apply innovative problem solving skills to support the vision for new product development
  • Realise the design intent of a 2D sketch in 3D CAD
  • Engineer into component parts, (in some instances from A-Surface CAD), a multi-component assembly, fit for manufacture in relevant materials/processes
  • Participate in brainstorms and gather research to support new product development
  • Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly
  • Use good engineering practice and discipline to deliver robust design solutions in agreed timeframe
  • Maintain all supporting material

This is what we need you to have…

  • A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline or equivalent
  • Previous relevant experience (minimum 5yrs) of Product Design or Mechanical Engineering
  • EXCEL in use of Solidworks
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of basic mechanical principles
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of injection moulding and DFM
  • A creative and considered approach to problem solving, adhering to clear design processes
  • An understanding of practical and methodical design development through prototyping and testing
  • Good understanding and familiarity of use of basic workshop equipment (lathe; milling machine etc.) for rig building and model making
  • Proven ability to communicate through 2 and 3 dimensional media, e.g. sketching, CAD, model making
  • Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and coordinate with the work of others
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self starter – ability to work independently

Our Ideal Candidate may have had…

Up to 5 years experience working in-house within the design department of a manufacturing business, with responsibility to take designs from a visual concept to components for manufacture.

Salary

£32.5 – £37.5k

(negotiable dependent upon experience)
